Sailing "Cascadia" my CD30 Around the World

Post by Doublebecket »

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share with you my website that documents sailing "Cascadia", my CD30 around the world. I left Seattle July 12th, and I am by no means a journalist or videographer, but there are definitely some good videos to view for all of us Cape Dory enthusiasts. Anyways, the Cape Dory message board has been a valuable resource for me and I thought I would like to share my story with everyone. You can read about and watch all my adventures at SailingWithAndy.com

Best Regards,
Andy

I have a CD30C and it is ready to sail around the world with paper charts, two (2) GPS units, sextant, sight reduction tables, wind pilot charts, new engine, new standing rigging, spare running rigging, spare parts, life raft, first aid kit, 300 watt solar power,300 foot of chain and much more. All cushions removed except for one in main salon so I can bring food and mucho water. I don't thing you are equipped for such a long journey. Read "Log of the Molly Brown" book if you want to see someone that did not know "squat" about sailing and with a lot luck, sailed around the world in and old Pearson 36.

Hey, thank you for checking out my website! As far as Cascadia being outfitted, I assure you she has everything you listed plus more. (However, I chose to keep my salon cushions). Anyways, sounds like you're ready to set sail as well...I'll see you out there!

Andy

Andy,

Just went on your site and will be following along with your trip. Nice work. From that short video it looks like Cascade in in pretty good nick. Be interested to learn more of your boat and the upgrades you made to her in fitting out for this voyage. I bet the others here would be interested in that sort of stuff too.

Fair winds and have a safe and wonderful voyage!

Aloha! Cascadia and I just arrived in Hawaii this morning. With an average speed of 4.6 knots, the voyage took a little over 19 days. it was mostly uneventful and there was no surprises as everything worked as it should. I'll update my blog with some videos and more details from the trip shortly.

Hey Everyone, just wanted to check in and give you an update on Cascadia and I. We are doing great here in the Hawaiian islands and almost fully prepped for our next passage to the Marshall Islands in Micronesia. We should be leaving next week sometime. Anyways, here is a link to those that want to read more...there is also a video if you're not the reading type. Fair winds!

Hi everyone! I made it safely to the Marshall Islands. The passage took 19.5 days and was approximately 2100 miles. You can watch my video about this passage here: https://youtu.be/cILxHUfF-u4

You can read about this passage by visiting my website: http://sailingwithandy.com/2016/11/04/s ... l-islands/

As a testament to Alberg's design, Cascadia performed excellent and gracefully handled whatever weather we encountered along the way.

Andy

Can you tell us a bit about the work you did on Cascadia to prep for the trip? I notice you keep you dinghy on the foredeck when offshore. How is that working and what are the advantages?

Good luck and wishes for fair winds and following seas.

Pete
