Source for bronze bar

My teak coamings are splitting where the cleats are attached. Barring a better approach, I plan to epoxy the teak, then reinstall the cleats, but adding a bronze plate to add some structural strength. I figure I'd use something around 1/8" thick, and 2" x 4".

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy stock bronze and what type would be best to use?

McMaster Carr perhaps? Also, Spartan makes a triangular backing plate that goes on the opposite side of the coamings... if that gives you anything.

I'm not sure what the "right" bronze is but 954 Aluminum Bronze has held up just fine protecting our bowsprit since 2010.

I have ordered from all of the above without any problems. McMaster doesn't give you a shipping estimate but they charge fair prices and ship fast. If you order from them you may want to also get some fasteners, cotter pins etc.

Lastly you may want to check Ebay, you may find some bargain cutoffs.

That has potential. Thank you. Price wise it isn't too much more than the raw material is likely to cost. If the bolt pattern used in '83 has not changed, this could be the best option.

Spartan Marine sells a bronze backing plate with holes/etc. for the cleats that are mounted on the coamings. A few years back I purchased and added a cleat on my coamings for rollerfurling. The backing plate adds a lot of strength, and it looks pretty.

Yes indeed. I am looking into that option to see if the hole pattern matches my cleats from '83.

Upon measuring the hole pattern, the Spartan backing plate (B202) looks to be the same hole pattern as was used in '83. I'm going to order 3... and as previously noted, they will look pretty
