CD30 Cockpit

Post by Jerry J Commisso »

I own a 1980 CD30 Cutter Hull #141 with pedestal wheel steering. My seats wrap completely around the cockpit so I am able to sit directly behind the wheel while sailing the boat. I have not seen another CD30 with the same arrangement. The boats I've seen have seats only on the sides of the cockpit nothing at the stern. Does anyone know which other production years these wrap around seats were used?
Thanks,

Jerry,We have a 1977 CD30 that we are converting to pedestal steering. This made it necessary to glass in the hole in the stern cockpit wall where the worm drive came through. It does shorten up the cockpit a bit.How far forward is your pedestal? I haven't seen a CD30 without the wrap around seats you describe, most had the worm drive unit with the teak box at the center of the stern and a small seat area to either side.Thanks.

Ron, The distance from the wood at the stern of the cockpit to the wheel not the pedestal is 30". I am not positive but I believe that all boats 1980 and newer had pedestal steering. Not the worm drive type.

Jerry, I had a friend with a 1980 CD30 cutter like yours, and his cockpit was like yours. I had a 1981 CD30, Hull #183 and my cockpit was changed to the side seat only arrangement. I believe Cape Dory made the change when they discontinued the Ketch option, and it sure appears that was sometime around the introduction of the 1981 model.
