I have 2. Deep cell 12 volt batteries. one for start, one for house. 1984 CD30c. She lives on a mooring and I am working on adding some solar to trickle charge them.

A different perspective. This year, I sailed the Far Reach over 3000 NM in six months and lived on her full time. For nearly half that time there were four people on board. Two adults and two teenagers OMG!). I have one group 31 AGM and a 30 watt semi flex solar panel as the sole source for power and for charging. Our battery was never below 80 percent (normal low was about 92 percent) and usually made it back to 100 percent each day. We charged a number of electronic devices, ran the Vesper Marine Watchmate 750 AIS, occasionally used a plug in LED anchor light we suspended from the lazy jacks (normally used the kerosene light), and often ran two 12v fans.
True enough it is ridiculously simple and durable as are the capabilities it provides. But it works well for our needs. I recognize and sincerely respect everyones desires and needs are different and I make no judgment on those that have the most complex and elaborate system to those who use only a candle. You need to determine and then install what you need to be happy. I offer it as an example for those that may not know that you might be able to get by with, and enjoy, a lot less than many folks tell you that you must have. While I think, to me, the Far Reach is a beautiful boat on the outside, her real beauty is that she is elegantly simple and that includes the electrical system. That is not to say we will never increase her electrical capability, or complexity, but I was/am thrilled with what we have now.
