Brown bottom paint

If you are like us and like brown bottom paint, you also have probably found it harder and harder to find, and only in expensive paint. We were using Micron Extra.

So, we switched this year to Hydrocoat. Following the advice of my buddy Rich Abato, we combined equal parts Black and Red. It came out a nice dark-chocolate brown. We like it a lot. Hydrocoat costs about 65% of Micron Extra, and the latter seems to be getting phased out. Plus the Hydrocoat is water-based. So if it works well on the marine critters, it will be a win/win.

In case anyone else is considering this, here's a photo of what it looks like:



The boat gets splashed on Tuesday, so the final push is in full swing.

That is one truly gorgeous boat! Thanks for posting and the information about the paint. I too have used Micron Extra and now have an alternative paint to use in the future. I'd like to add a midship cleat like that--not sure if I'm up to the skills required, though. I'm guessing it's a Spartan? Also, who sells the mast boot? If you check my post dated today, you'll see where I'm at with this.
