Cleaning non-skid areas

Today we had good luck cleaning the white smooth gelcoat surfaces like the cabin sides, the sloping cabin front, etc. We used Davis FSR, and that worked well.

Now I'd like to clean the non-skid areas, which on our boat are painted tan. Can I use FSR on that part? The FSR container says "safe on white painted sufaces." Does that mean DON'T use it on other colors of paint? ???

I have used a dish soap solution and lots of scrubbing with a stiff brush, but that only gets me so far.

Any suggestions?

Yes, re-painting those areas is probably on the horizon ...

I would go with dish soap and a little bleach followed by WoodyWax, or for a single step use Starbrite's non-skid cleaner with the PTEF to help it stay clean

As suggested by Northstar in his post, I have used Starbrite Non-Skid cleaner on both my Ty Weekender and my Cape Dory 25D for both the non-skid areas and the other surfaces. It has worked well.

I recall several years ago trying to get someone (anyone) to tell me why Starbrite should ONLY be used on Non-skid surfaces. No one could give me an answer. The WM website says "Best Use" is on non-skid but does not say "DO NOT use on other areas. Like I said I have used it on everything on deck and have never had a problem - at least not one I am aware of.

I second the Starbrite non-skid deck cleaner. Used it today and it worked well removing all the leaf staining on the surface.

I third the Starbrite. Admittedly I have no idea what is in it and how toxic it is at the lake so I am always sure to have a bottle of BoatZoap nearby in case the environment police come along. It just works too well not to use it. I do wash things down pretty well first to minimize how much I need, but a few spritzes and a stiff brush take care of the grunge and it lasts.
