Mixing small quantities of epoxy

Post by Frenchy »

Hi everyone - I've received so much help and direction from this board that I'd thought I'd share my own little tip for mixing small dixie cups of epoxy.
A long time ago, I tried the West Systems Mini-Pumps, which worked great for a while, then over time, clogged. Now I use
an Ohaus triple beam scale to measure out the resin and hardener by weight. The scales are not expensive - there's one on e-bay
now for less than $20. If the epoxy cans are close to full and difficult to pour, you can use plastic straws by closing one end with your finger- just use separate straws!
With a little patience it's not hard to mix 10 grams of resin and 2 grams of hardener.

$20 :!: Well worth it. We have been using an old single beam postal scale and the closest that can measure is 1/2 oz. That can be a lot of epoxy. I use 3/8" nuts as added tare weight, 1 or 2 for the hardener and then 5 or 10 for the resin. The triple beam will make things a whole lot easier, and more accurate. Thanks
