This bulletin board, hosted by the CDSOA, Inc., is the on-line meeting place for all Cape Dory owners and groups. We welcome everyone's questions, answers and comments about Cape Dory sailboat
Not sure if this can be called a "project".
Has anyone purchased those J Back "Coaming Pads" that fit over the Coaming so you can either lean back or "sit" on top of them when you need a better view forward.
They are made by "C Cushions".
I am hoping they will fit on the coamings for my 25D. I usually just use on of the throwable float cushions from West Marine ( which end up under foot )
Anyway, I think they might be good but could be to deep for 25D side boards....
I have a pair of these on S/V Bali Ha'i (a 1982 Cape Dory 25D). They were purchased by the prior caretaker of S/V Bali Ha'i so I am not certain if they were made by C Cushions. They look exactly like the ones in the photo you posted. The ones I have are comfortable. They are secured to the coaming with a long piece of thin line and a "C" clasp screwed into the coaming.
Fair winds,

We have 4 of the coaming pads like the one in the photo. They fit snugly on the coaming of our 31 and stay put.
Pretty comfortable, but I sometimes prefer a boat cushion. They don't fit well over the mid-point of the coaming where the cleat is, nor at the aft end where the coaming narrows. Sometimes I take one off the coaming and flip it over to vary the back support for my cranky old back.
We got ours used, 4 for 50 bucks.
Cheers!

Way too many other small boats
Thanks for the input.
I think i'll invest in two of them and see how they work out. Doubt that I'll find them used around here (until the day after a buy them anyway)...
The picture doesn't show it but if they are "J" cushions then the part that cannot be seen should be short enough to fit over the coamings enough to stay put.
I have cockpit seat cushions already so the two together should be quite comfortable..
We have those same cushions on our 22 and are very happy with them. There is a snap on the back and the corresponding female snap screws in to the back side of your coaming. Very comfortable.
