Anchor testing; 40 minute video

It is a 40 minute video of 8-9 different anchors. The author has rigged a GoPro camera so that you can sort of see the anchors attempting to set in various seabed conditions and various scopes.

Educational - at least for me.

For those interested, it is probably a two (2) Guinness video in duration. :D :D

Worth the watch! It makes me think my 35lb Genuine Bruce as a secondary may not be the best choice.

My only observation is that the length and displacement of the test boat are not revealed. I have an original 33# Bruce and it has never dragged or failed to set for me. I displace 12,000lbs., give or take a few hundred pounds, even when fully loaded for a cruise. The Colvin Saugeen Witch is not limited to its original 34' design length and the designer admits that the design has been stretched to suit individual builders requirements. If the test boats displacement is 15,000 or 20,000 lbs. (or more?) the anchors would certainly not perform as they might for a boat of lesser displacement and windage.
In general terms the tests are interesting at best. I have been considering updating my anchor with one of the more modern designs but it's a tough decision when the tackle you have currently performs well. I have 15 fathoms of 5/16 chain and 27 fathoms of 5/8 nylon attached to my Bruce and it has performed admirably so far.
