Gentlemen,
I'm looking for guidance on replacing the halyard sheaves (sp?) on my 1984 CapeDory Typhoon. The mainsail sheave was making a lot of noise last fall, and I want to replace both at this time.
Where can I get these parts? The mast is not up (and won't be put up for a month or two). I've looked over the
manual but I don't see any detailed pictures/drawings about how to remove and replace these.
I'm assuming that the halyard size will determine what sheaves I need to get?
I'll appreciate any guidance and suggestions anyone has. Thanks.

Are you sure you need to replace them?
I would take them out to see what they look like. If they are not very badly corroded or cracked, they probably just need to be cleaned up and lubricated.
I am pretty sure there is just a simple pin or bolt that holds them in place, Steve.

Tim, I guess I'd respond with the usual, head towards Dwyer Aluminum. They've always been very helpful for fitments on my Typhoon. Here is the link:

Tim
Ditto what Steve suggested
It worked for my boat/1973
Just replace the hardware

Re: Replacing Halyard sheaves - 1984 Cape Dory Typhoon
While I think that I have a different model Typhoon I had the same problem with 2/4 sheaves frozen. The problem is that the aluminum sheaves corroded reducing the clearance to the stainless plate that separates the main and jib sides. Rather than replace them I removed them when the mast was out and mechanically removed the corrosion (I wet sanded with 200 and 400 grit paper). I little dry lube on the bronze bushings and all was well. This was three years ago and everything still works ok. I think that this is a bad design and any polymer would have been a better choice than Al.

I do not have the issue at all. I do sail in fresh water however, if that's a contributor to less corrosion. But also I sail once or twice a week too and so my sheaves are often getting duty. Too, I have that cover on mine which does service for keeping weather out of the movement....?
