Deck Curve on CD 27 ?

Post by shinchman »

I need to have the bow pulpit replaced on my CD 27 and the fabricator asked today if there was any camber to the deck at the bow. I think not or not much, but my boat is under cover on an island boatyard, so I thought to ask the forum -- if anyone can get to their boat.

The question would be the degree of deck curve, if any (for purposes of mounting the feet) between the starboard/port and fore/aft leg attachment points of the pulpit -- see picture showing broken off feet on the starboard and empty mounting holes to port. I would think you could tell by laying a short board or level across the deck and seeing if it lies flat and, if not, how much of a gap shows at the edge where the feet mount.

Any input would be most appreciated!

Steve

Also, might be helpful to send the fabricator close up photos of an intact bow pulpit, if anyone has any. (Mine was pretty much destroyed, unfortunately). If anyone has any let me know. - Thanks, Steve

Steve,
We own Slainte, a 1980 CD27. There is some curvature at the bow, but since I am not at the boat I can't say just how much right now. The line drawings for the 27 show that there is 5" of rise measured midship. Assuming the curve to be constant that would indicate a rise of about 1 1/4" near the back of the bow pulpit. I don't think it is quite that much.

Slainte is under her winter cover right now. I looked through all of our pictures and the only one we have that really shows the pulpit is this one on the day she was delivered to us.

Ps. That is the truck driver, not me.

Picture angle is perfect - you can see the slight camber on the bow of the boat (and the driver)! Thanks!
