High Water on the Mississippi

We are headed for a flood of historic proportions here in Saint Louis. The Mississippi and the Missouri are in flood. This should not be as bad as the flood of '93, but this is the worst flooding since we have owned Slainte. In 2013 we had a flood that put the Mississippi 14 feet above flood, this one is predicted to go 19 feed above flood. That means all of the lines securing these docks must be adjusted by that much, some docks have to be moved to keep boats out of the trees. Here is a picture of the flood of 2013:

Slant is off to the left. The house that you see in the middle is our Lighthouse. The floor of the Lighthouse is 18 feet above the ground.

I have a flying buddy who has a plane that was based at St. Charles County airport and he moved it to Creve Coeur because his airport is predicted to have a foot of water on the runway and four feet of water in his hangar.

He was lucky to be able to drive in to the airport, all of those roads are under water now. Good luck to you too, all of this is coming your way eventually.

Good luck! I had a friend who lived near there in the 93 flood; his pictures were dramatic and I'm glad I didn't see it in person.

here in new jersey we have our own version of 'flooding.' its called nor'easters and hurricanes. so we are familiar with letting out lots of line both for the high and the low tides. is Slainte still in the water? how far above the lock and dam at alton are you?

Luckily for us, at Harbor Point, we do not have to let out 27' of dock line (for each line). The docks are floating docks, so the harbormaster, Gary, Has to go to each set of docks and let out extra line or chain for each group of docks. That has to be close to 100 separate lines! Yes, Slainte is still in the water,she stays in for three to four years at a time and then is hauled for bottom painting and mast renewal. Lock and dam 26, at Alton, is at mile marker 200.5, that is measured from the mouth of the Ohio. Harbor Point Yacht Club is at mile 204.5. Alton marine, a state owned facility,is the first marina above the dam, it is on the Illinois side. HPYC is on the Missouri side of the river and it is the first marina above the lock on the Missouri side. The pool that we sailing stretches from lock and dam 26 upstream to lock and dam 25 at Winfield, mile marker 241.5. Saint Louis city is downstream at about mile marker 179, from there the next stop is New Orleans, unless you need fuel, or pump out, or food.
