O-Ring splicing kit?

Post by Jim Walsh »

I must admit this was a new one on me. I never knew they existed until now. The kit provides you with straight lengths of several different o-ring material sizes. You trim to your desired finished size and glue the ends together and ......voila! You have created a custom o-ring!
Does anyone have any experience with this?

Jim:

We do this all the time for production assembly at work, using Parker o-ring cord stock and cyanoacrylate adhesive suitable for Buna-N or other o-ring material. It is the only way to get O-rings in large sizes (i.e. 24 inches and larger.) I would not, however, recommend it for the typical sub-inch size we use in boats, as the lap joint in small sizes may not seal well.

Thanks Skip. That's the kind of practical advice I was looking for.

Echo on the thanks, Skip.

We started replacing all o-ring last year and found the exact sizes scarce over in Nova Scotia.

And a happy new year to you and your family.
