Needing the space in the basement, I emailed Sea Bags to see if they were interested in taking a couple of old genoas off my hands. Service could not have been better from there.
Although based in Portland, ME, my old sails were picked up in Brookline, MA, by appointment, and they showed exactly on time. Clean and easy and I received a significant merchandise credit. Their stuff is expensive, but well made... unlikely I'd pay $$$ ... but I"m quite satisfied to have traded old sails for an overnight bag and some ditty bags.
I have no financial interest in Sea Bags and have no idea how they compare to others... all I know is I have what I consider free stuff, my basement has free space, and the landfill is free of two sails.

Re: Recycling used sails
If you have old sails you can also consider donating them to "Sails for Sustenance". They are a non-profit [501(c)(3)] that preps the sails and sends them to Haiti to be used by fishermen, etc. It is truly a worthwhile cause and, for those interested, it is tax deductible.

We have a "sail box" at the sailing club reserved for members to donate their old sails. Periodically, they are picked up, prepped, and shipped to Haiti.
