Pretty funny (gladly no one was injured) video. I've seen a couple similar ones on YouTube. Your reminder should be taken to heart though, many people pay no attention to the bitter end unless they end-for-end or replace their anchor rode. I learned my lesson when I was ten or eleven and tossed my fathers old navy pattern anchor over the bow of a rented dory when we were flat fishing in Niantic Bay. It's likely still there

Cute!
I wonder what that anchor and chain cost?
I never worry about loosing the bitter end for I can, of course, precisely measure out 299 feet of anchor rode every time without error.
Cheers!

I have 90' of chain and another 200' of three strand nylon. All chain can have a mind of it's own once it starts to run. The nylon goes out at a more leisurely pace. Even so, I added an eye bolt in the chain locker and secure the bitter end with a lighter line that is long enough to exit the hawse pipe. My thinking is that I definitely want the end tied off but with something that is very easy to cut free, if the need ever arises, Steve.

I cannot imagine what could have secured that much heavy chain moving at that speed. Overall, I think that they might have been lucky that the bitter end came free.
