This is one of those situations where the seller doesn't know what they have folks. The price is not cheap but it has a $500.00 wheel adapter pictured which the seller doesn't even recognize nor realize is an optional extra.
This could be a bargain, not cheap, but a bargain.

From a quick glance at the Scanmar site, I understand that the price of a Monitor (without the wheel adapter) is ~$5,000.
Am I correct that this includes a customized mounting system? How much extra would it cost if one had to order or fabricate a mounting system to fit their boat?

At $2,900 it is a bargain, but this is only the starting bid. It will be an interesting one to watch.

The Monitor wind vane is $4,900 and the wheel adapter is $575.00.
When you order a new one from Scanmar they customize the upper and lower mounting tubes to fit your transom and provide a customized mounting diagram for your make and model. A quick phone call to them with your particulars would get you a quote for the mounting tubes required. Since the unit being offered is new the existing mounting tubes may very well only have to be trimmed to fit your installation.
If you are interested in the unit offered on eBay ask the seller for the serial number, then call Scanmar and asked for the date the unit was shipped and what boat it was set up for.

I bought a lightly used late model Monitor a few years ago, for $2000.00 and then had to buy the wheel adapter.

Mine came with the plans for the original boat. I contacted Scanmar and they were very good about sending me the plan for my boat. It was then just a matter of cutting or adding to the tubes to make it fit. All the lower tubes are just straight stainless tubing. I had Mystic Stainless weld an extension on the upper tubes rather than ordering new ones. The bent tubes are expensive. Extending the tube was pretty cheap and the clamps cover the weld. Depending on the boat you might not need to deal with the top tubes. The CD-30 is pretty low in the stern.

The one thing that is certain is that you will never be disappointed if you install one of these vanes, Steve.
