Genoa track for CD31

Post by David Morton »

After swapping my high cut yankee for a 120 genoa on my cutter rigged CD31, I realized my jib track is way too aft for the lower cut foot, leaving the genoa leech flapping even with the jib car all the way forward. My sailmaker says I need to extend the track forward at least 4 ft. Wondering how others have tackled this problem, especially how to deal with access thru the cabin liner to fasten the track to the toe rail. Access for the existing track is aft enough to get at thru the cockpit lockers.

I switched out the short track for one that goes from the midship cleat to a couple of feet short of the stern. You can get at all of the bolts but don't expect it to be easy. You can get to the forward ones by reaching up under the liner. The hardest ones are at the bulkheads at the rear of the cabin. This is one of the few jobs that absolutely needs two people. Great fun indeed, mixing blood, sweat and sealant while being contorted and crammed into ungodly places, Steve.

Cool. Looking forward to it! Actually, I'm not sure how to get under the liner in my CD31 cabin without cutting it out. I'll post a picture tomorrow. I'm hoping there is some magic piece of teak trim that can be removed to reveal all, but I haven't found it yet.

On the CD-30 there is a space between the liner and the hull, over the book shelves. You should be able to reach right up under there and feel the bolts for the deck joint and the jib track. I run wires up under the edge of the liner as well, Steve.
