I waited until about 5 seconds prior to the end of bidding and sent it off. My feeling was that others knew the value of the deal and earlier bidding would have just raised the final selling price. I was confused when the bid failed to go thru and I got the notification but by that time it was too late....almost glad because I'm still not finished with working on the 30B and my wife overheard me talking to a friend about bidding and perhaps having to give up the 28 to another Cape Dory lover, she made the comment that I had to give up two for one! I think she was just kidding.

I was also concerned about getting it up to Virginia. With the 30b I was able to go up to NYC and work on it over a weekend and then come back the following weekend with a crew and sail it down to Virginia over a single weekend. The trip from SC would have been a week or so assuming that one took at least one leg well off shore. I don't know if the boat could have been made ready for open water sailing in less that a couple of weeks or so. Shipping by truck would have been the smart move but not half the fun.

Re: CD36 on eBay
It doesn't appear to be in any worse shape than our poor abandoned 33 was when we bought it. If we didn't already have Anteris we would have been all over this. The fact that a lot of people didn't know about pre-registering for the $15K+ bids really worked out in the favor of the winning bidder. There were probably a number of people who didn't get an opportunity to outbid them because of that.
I hope the new owner shows up here on the forum so we can follow her restoration.

Re: CD36 on eBay
I'll go one step beyond "a pretty good deal" - someone got an awesome deal. Until this point I thought I had lucked into the best fixer-upper CD-36 deal. This one may be better.Sea Hunt Video wrote:Back in September 1999, S/V Windchime was owned by Jody Smith. She posted apparently only one time on this board.

$15,000 plus some incidental costs is a pretty good deal although the photos do make her appear "skeletonized".
Congrats to the new owner. You did very well.
