New potable water hoses on CD 31

Post by jen1722terry »

Hello again, members

Have any of you replaced all the potable water hoses on a CD 30, 31 or 33?

Since were planning to take out the saloon berth decks to examine/repair the water tanks fittings this fall, we thought we use the opportunity to replace all the potable water hoses. They appear to be original and, even with careful cleaning each spring, appear to be getting ratty inside and a bit brittle.

If anyone know about how much hose we should order, we would appreciate it. We're thinking at least 50 feet, maybe more.

New oil cooler in today (we hope). Soupy weather until Wednesday over here in Nova Scotia, then several days of fine (finally) sailing.

Changed the hoses around after I bought Guppy. Most were brown inside, so everything got scrubbed/ rebuilt.

Currently I have one tank going to the foot pump and then the sink, using the full size faucet with the handle removed (cold valve left open). The other tank is run to the electric macerating head with a shutoff valve.

No more seawater turning green within days when I'm away from the boat. I am usually near water often enough to not worry about running out. I fill the tanks through the inspection hatches, not a big change in time versus a deck fill, and certainly less complex.I can also top one off when I wish.

I've seen so many ugly home made manifolds, I think that PEX is a possible alternative if you have multiple sources and sinks. Would use hot for one tank, cold for another. Adding two inlet valves and a crossover pipe between a hot and a cold output valve would let you pick which tank feed gets used.

For a boat with a hot water, 75-100' of half inch ID might be more likely. This is a great winter project...

Thanks so much for the tips, Maine Buzzard,

We were thinking we may need 100', but weren't sure.

The manifold under the sink was replaced by the PO, so it works fine. It's the hoses that are quite ratty and hard to clean, even with lots of bleach.

I'll do this in October when Jenn flies south to visit her folks and I can tear up the interior at will, drink bear, play my music and sleep wherever. Should be fun.

I do like your mods, though. Much simpler to use.

Cheers!
