Maine Sail,
What major differences do you see when you add a reference sensor?
It actually performs well.... There is a reason they place the terminals for a rudder reference on the ACU's... The glossy ads would have you believe they don't need one, but unless you only ever motor with it in flat seas, they pretty much need one and they will also work more efficiently with one..
Ray has been trying to figure out a way to get rid of the rudder reference for years, through software, gyro's etc., and it has yet to work better than "marginally"...
If I add a Ray Marine NEMA 2000 GPS receiver to the EV-100 network, will I need the GPS display, or is the EV-100 a repeater?
Following is reply from Ray Marine:
The p70/p70R Autopilot Control Heads are limited to displaying SOG and COG data from a GPS sensor. Also, if planning to use the autopilot's Track mode feature, then the autopilot must be interfaced to a chart plotter, GPS display featuring support for navigation (i.e. Go to Waypoint/Cursor or Follow Route), or computer running a navigational applications capable of the same.
