Topsides in primer...

Topsides in primer...
After several iterations of filling, fairing, and epoxy coating the tough spots, I finally have a boat that's all one color! Battleship grey! This is the Interlux Pre-Kote primer. Next step is green Brightside. That'll be a couple of weeks from now because it's time to go cruise the New England coast!

Tim...
I need it for the topcoats. It's supposed to be 14 day tape!

"Supposed to be..." The 60 day tape that we used wasn't good for 10. I'm afraid that the 14 days may be how long it will take to remove the tape and the residue. She's not out in the sun is she? Your shed might be enough to keep the tape from being baked on. I wish you well.
I can't wait to see the final paint job. Green, that sounds very neat.

The fine line tape I had a problem with in the past was in the sun, especially on one side. The sun definitely made a difference. This morning I removed the tape from the newly varnished teak because I won't be getting to the next step for several days. The tape on the old bottom paint can stay. When I finally take that off maybe it will take some of the old bottom paint with it and save me some sanding! Your take on the 14 day spec made me chuckle!

WOW! Way more sanding than I anticipated. 120 grit, then 220. Finally some green!

Skeep...The "boat barn," as I call it, is a cheapy by King Canopy (10x20). I used to keep 3 small boats in it for the winter until I bought CARAL. She just fits; the trailer doesn't quite! I like it because it is right next to the garage, so I have tools, power, compressed air, etc. When I had a CD 28 I had a larger, round top RV style version which was fantastic! Made boating a 12 month hobby! It was tall enough that I could stand straight up in the cockpit. A couple of 4' fluorescent shop lights suspended from the ridge and it was like daylight in there!
The first coat of Brightside is not quite as smooth as I was hoping for, but passes the ten foot test. I'll sand between coats as per the instructions, apply the next 2 coats very carefully (and thin), and see if it improves. Overall I am very satisfied so far. Does your TY live in the water or is she trailer sailed? If in the water, how is your paint holding up, especially the stern quarters that are nearly horizontal and often wet? Rich
