From the CNN video it looks like this hull would barely be visible even on a clear day. One of the dangers of the "Coconut Milk Run". While I know little of such encounters I cannot imagine a fiberglass sailboat hitting such an object (it may also be fiberglass) without doing substantial, perhaps fatal, damage to a sailboat's hull.
The video evokes sad memories and pictures of the earthquake and tsunami from March 2011 that destroyed so many lives in Japan. Very sad.
