New life raft

Raven got a new life raft today.

I have kept a quote in may head and all of my fingers, throughout a career of woodworking. "Safety is a matter of self respect." These few words apply to sailing as well.

I have done a few trips now and am planning to do one a year for awhile. Raven is very well founded and I have added radar, AIS, an EPIRB, lots of fire extinguishers and flares, spare parts, jack lines, butt guards at the mast and a few other safety items over the years. I always cringed a bit when I considered my lack of a life raft.

I remedied that today and it feels real good. I chose a Revere Coastal Commander, 4 person in a valise. I felt the insulated floor was pretty important when going north. I will have to name her now as we will be rather intimate with her sharing the opposite bunk on off shore trips. I think she can stay up in the V berth / garage when I am just messing around.

I'll take name suggestions, Steve.

"The Paul Revere". As I learned in my GED class, Paul Revere signaled with two lanterns atop a church in Boston that the British were then crossing the Charles River "by sea" to arrest certain "revolutionaries". Steve, if, God forbid, you are forced by circumstances into "The Paul Revere" you will be landing "by sea".
