Well if nothing else it keeps you from having to dive in to plug the through-hull with your choice of plug (soft wood dowell, Forespar Staplug, gooped up piece of canvas, etc.). Worth a try if you're in a predicament.
I have had a bit of a sea bung from too much salt water and sitting but that is another story.
Those things look great but I would bet that boat was sitting in the slings and there was no marine growth anywhere to be found. It would be great if it would work to rebuild your Spartan seacocks while in the water but that is not the case. Maybe if you pulled the whole thing out.
The thing looked like it works but I would still feel better with a big ole wood plug hammered in there and swelling if I was off sailing somewhere, Steve.
It is kind of difficult to believe that a flimsy piece of plastic or PVC (the "umbrella" part) is pushed up against the thru hull with sufficient pressure from only 2-3 feet of water that it seals the thru hull.
The video suggests that it does but...............

For a problem with that type of valve threaded on a through hull, in perfect conditions, with all the parts, sure, I'd use it.
Too bad I'd never select that valve mount. Can you even get a valve with straight threads (not NPT!)?
The end of the through hull does not mate cleanly to the seat on a valve like that.
Toilet bowl wax rings and plumber's putty will always be up top in the Oh $%!@ bag.
I really need to measure the Spartan valve body taper and make some plugs that actually fit them. The generic plugs do not always fit the way I'd want.

I have a softwood plug to fit each through-hull plus a couple spares but I also have one of the Forespar TruPlug's. I'd encourage you guys to take a look at them. The old standby which few seem to be aware of is the wax ring previously mentioned. It'll stop most leaks cold and give you time to effect a more substantial repair.
