Thanks for the comments, I had lost track of updating this Eye Candy section so here's some from just the other day. We had some pre and post weather front winds of about 15 to 25 kts. Below is Baggy Wrinkles on a run wing and wing full of joy:

And, if that wasn't enough work, while single-handedly balancing my Nikon D3100 in one hand and the tiller in the other here is Baggy Wrinkles beating and having the time of her life:

Always a question of how to find a photo boat to follow her and get these from another perspective!

Nice pics Skeep! I'm always fearful of bringing out the Nikon to catch these kind of shots.

Oh, so very true. It's always just a fumble from a tumble into the lake. If it goes, I'm not diving after it either!

Some more specific up-close views of Baggy Wrinkles after I did some sealing ( see blog entry for the details: http://baggywrinkles.blogspot.com/2014/ ... iling.html ) because as I'd sail, I was still taking on about a 1/2 pint of water here and there and it bothered me when I could not maintain the dry hull below. So, OCD got the best of me... I sealed points of possible entry between the teak and the hull, cockpit, from aft and forward, etc. Replaced the mainsheet at the same time ( incorrect diameter on it and halyards, oh well, in time it all gets fixed right? ):

Image

This view is interesting because rather than just putting the traditional CD on the hull, due to the fact that she's a classic, decided to spell it out for the casual observer. Got the lettering from http://www.boatus.com/boatgraphics/striping.asp and will eventually add a grey stripe to the bow. Of notice too is the sealant under the rub rail. I sealed deck to toe-rail, toe-rail to rub-rail and rub-rail to hull with a 4000 white sealant. Well, I used black on the teak to teak part but white to deck and hull.

Ok so another couple of recent photos--one is a wing on wing photo utilizing the whisker pole ( which by the way, made an enormous difference in wind control while headed downwind in particularly rolling waves and higher winds the other day [see the blog] ) and the other is just for fun, a water splash while beating to windward in the same weather, earlier in the sail when the sun was still out a bit!

It is hard! So have the Nikon set on Automatic at 4.1 meg Norm, and the result is satisfying so far...

I marveled at Gary's buried rail photo. This starboard tack was chronicled in one of my recent Baggy Wrinkles' posts where I was headed to Bomb Island on Lake Murray. This is the best I can do single-handed, constantly wondering when I'll lose grip on my Nikon D3100 and jump overboard in a silly attempt to rescue a waterlogged digital device. Nope, when it drops into that murky water below, it'll stay there...

Re: CD Typhoon in South Carolina Video Eye Candy

Post by Skeep »

Well, I realize it is the "dead of winter" for most of the northern huddled CDSOA membership. So, I decided to go sailing this past weekend for you all. And not only that, I also took along my GoPro and sacrificed one arm to hold onto that for you all while using the other to direct Baggy Wrinkles on a fast reach.

I have to admit that the temperatures peaked at 70 degrees this past Sunday afternoon. Even my wife told me upon my return that she felt bad she didn't go aboard for the afternoon. Oh well, I enjoyed it myself however, and I thought you would enjoy seeing what it looked like. Perhaps it will make your blood warm a bit in anticipation of those longer days, tell-tales flopping about, and sails full in the breezes of Spring and Summer.

You don't have to visit my blog to see this, I'll paste the link to the video right here: http://youtu.be/1JsDe0Yzc9c Make sure you select the highest HD for a great crisp view.

Let's hope it is soon for you to be back out in the breezes!

Skeep, that was absolutely delightful! Thanks, it made my day!

I'm packing now to head to NC tomorrow (where it's warm!) to sail w/ a friend and then on to Annapolis for some nav training! You just got me in the mood!

Well, I've shared on the Cockpit Cover thread and also through my BlogSpot of course, that Sailor's Tailor finally produced the prototype cover for the Weekender. Here is the gal all buttoned up after I completed troubleshooting my initial fitment.

Image

This is the only full cover available now for a Typhoon of which I am aware. You can see the little winches push out just a bit on the tent surface. That might have to be remedied later. It was supposed to be done initially. Perhaps the indefinite nature of measurements and them creating it in Ohio from information I provide from South Carolina could have caused them to wait on the pop-outs. It would me!

I think colors are grey, blue and tan. Materials are acrylic and poly (mine). Up close photos available on my blog if you're interested in more details. Cost? About $750. Perhaps mine was more because it did not yet exist on the shelf. Who knows?

Oh, and one more thing, I like it a lot!

Looks good to me. I wouldn't fret about the winch pockets if that's what you mean by "pop out's". I'd just apply some sail repair tape to the inside in those spots to act as sacrificial chafe patches. Nice cover, well planned and well executed.

Yes! This really is a nice looking cover Skeep. Well done. I'll be contacting them soon for a boom tent. Maybe they'll find a niche doing work on these beauties.

Thanks, well they already have an assortment for the Typhoons, but this is the first for the Weekender. It's very well made. And, now Baggy Wrinkles has gone a little bit commercial: http://sailorstailor.com/products.asp?cat=28
