CD 27 hank on sails for sale

Post by Sooner »

I have just bought “Sharryn” an 1982 Cape Dory 27 and have decided to install a profurl 290. The boat came with five bags of foresails all in good to new condition. Due to the cost of sail conversion, will be offering them up for sale.
Condition - bag - loft - luff - foot - marked - $ US
G-VG - yes - Horizon - 31' 6” - 13' 10” - no2 genoa - $400
G-VG - yes - custom sails - 33' - 17'4” - no1 genoa -$495
AS NEW- yes - Atl race sails- - 29'6” - 11' - no 3 genoa -$390
AS NEW- yes - ?? - 15'8” - 7'4” - small storm jib -$210

All are hank on. Upon receipt of funds for sail and shipping, I will pack and ship same day. If you are
not happy for any reason return sail undamaged for full refund of sales price.
My grandsons say it's to cold and wet here to take pictures – and the mast is horizontal right now being overhauled. Soon as possible will add pictures of what is left to this post
Offer of Sails is exclusive to this forum for 30 days then they are off to the reseller.

Is that drifter a banked on sail? I thought that drifters were hoisted free of the forestay :?

I believe it to be a drifter.
Cut like a genoa
2 hanks on the luff
a sturdy luff rope sewn in
it is white - yellow and orange.
doesn't show any signs of being used much

Nice Suit- Why not keep the drifter until you sail with it?

They are awesome when the doldrums arrive...

The large storm sail can be converted to an ATN Gale Sail. As the wind builds, you've rolled the genoa in, and now you need to unwrap it to put up a heavy weather jib? The ATN sail goes over the furled genny and goes on without a lot of fuss. I think I paid $400 to have mine converted. Think of it as a #3

I second Maine Buzzard's suggestion. Why not set the drifter flying? Remove those two snaps and you're ready to go. They're good sails. I made one several years ago, and it serves us well.

Thanks for the Ideas - I hadn't thought of making a Gale Sail out of one of my sails! I'll take down the drifter also from the for sale post- might as well try it before selling it. As a new owner and member -- thought I'd simply clear off the v berth - no room for them.

I've used the ATN sail in much less than a storm- One or two days in the early season when the wind was up and I didn't feel like switching from Genoa to Yankee. And the practice was a really good idea. It does go on better on a port tack.

The drifter is easy to dump, no snuffer needed. Turn down so the main blankets it, release the sheet and pull the clew forward to collapse it and start gathering the foot. Pop the shackle at the tack and play the halyard with your third hand while stuffing the drifter down the V berth hatch.
A padeye way forward next to the bow roller is perfect for flying the drifter. Off center a few inches will not be noticeable.
