From the new CDSOA Commodore

Post by Neil Gordon »

Greetings:

From its modest beginnings in the Chesapeake, CDSOA has grown into a robust, multi-fleet, national organization. Our members and our boats can be found pretty much anywhere there are ingredients for a Dark and Stormy. More important than our size and our reach though, are the friendships that are forged by CDSOA.

I’ve long believed that CDSOA functions best at the member level and that all we can do as “management” is to provide a fresh breeze. To me, that’s done (i) through this website/message board, and (ii) by encouraging and facilitating local, on-the-water, and near-the-water events.

I look forward to working with our Fleet Captains and our many behind the scenes volunteers, and I look forward to hearing from you. Tell me what CDSOA means to you and how we can all make it better.
Fair winds, Neil

Neil, Congrats on the position and thanks for your perspectives.

Frankly put, the site is a terrific resource for those of us experiencing the Cape Dory Brand. Having been here but for a short while, I've been so grateful for the guidance, wisdom, technical explanations, patience and humor of the Board members. As a little-bitty yacht owner, I'm grateful to be part of the Association and glad to support it.

Like many, I'd enjoy some possible products to associate myself with the CDSOA like hats, shirts, and/or license plates etc., however am not losing sleep over that just the same. I'm not sure how the MASTHEAD functions for those of us paying dues but I'll continue to click and attempt to find that too one day.

Appreciate many of you all from afar and lean heavily upon your experience!

I've also seen (and encourage) free swag given away as door prizes at various CDSOA Fleet events or in connection with participation in a cruise, rendezvous or float-in. Those events and related swag are funded in part by your CDSOA dues, with details left to the discretion of Fleet Captains and local members.

Thanks for the kind words, Rit.

Just for the record, I'm at the helm with a tiller in hand. Just saying.

Mike, that's funny! Neil, yup, I've seen that page. However, my question is where is the distinctive logo for any of these products? Are we supposed to find that at checkout? I see the Burgees are ready but the garments and hats have no CD Logos. Am I missing something that everyone else knows already? thanks--
