Missing Sailor in Florida Keys
Hopefully this will have a positive ending.

I know this area very well from many years of diving. This may be another justification for being tethered to your sailboat (I've come a long way on this) even in close to shore waters.
If there are further reported developments I will try to post.

It is hard to make a call or correlation on being tethered in this case. The boat was last seen sinking.
Could have been lightening, boat could have been sinking, could have been... Not a good time to have that debate in my opinion and only time to just pray he is found safe and for his family.

I think it's always an appropriate time to have the discussion but I'd agree it's a bad time to point fingers at this particular missing sailor at this particular time.joemerchant wrote: Not a good time to have that debate in my opinion ...

Yesterday, the USCG ended it's search for the sailor. Very sad. The scuttlebutt in the Upper Keys is that there was a very severe storm that formed out of nowhere with 60+mph winds, lightening and very heavy rains - white out conditions.

I'm not sure about the southern cities, but we've had horrible weather in Melbourne this year, a lot of very large and very violent storms.

I know several of the rescue/support personnel. They are good guys. The diving community in the Keys is tight. Rob was right when he said "we take care of our own".

Robert, thanks for posting that link. I was waiting for an update. Truly a remarkable disaster and very sad tale for the family. At least they know now and that helps them come to closure. Sad indeed.
