New Paint

Don't forget to snap some photos while you work on that boat project, then share them here.

New Paint

Post by K Chiswell »

We just finished repainting our boat. There is still a lot of work to do to put it all back together but I thought I would share a few photos

As one who jumps from one never ending project to the next, I am always impressed by others who accomplish tasks.
Since I can't fathom how this is accomplished, I have so many questions.

How did you find a climate controlled place for the work?
How was the old paint removed?
What was the repair to the fiberglass on the starboard side, behind the ladder in the top picture?
What paint did you use and how was it applied?

Well done,

Since I can't fathom how this is accomplished, I have so many questions.

How did you find a climate controlled place for the work? Incredible luck! A good friend bought the build a few weeks before I pulled my boat with a plan to renovate in about 3 years. I used it all.
How was the old paint removed? The bottom was soda blasted, the rest was gelcoat sanded before painting.
What was the repair to the fiberglass on the starboard side, behind the ladder in the top picture? Where I filled the thru hulls.
What paint did you use and how was it applied? We sprayed on Metacryl, an acrylic urethane (so is Allcraft 2000). Not being in a boat yard I was able to find a custom car painter to do it at a fraction of the cost of what I have heard others pay.
I understand the feeling of projects not being finished. I pulled the boat out of the water October 2011 for the winter and launched it last week far from complete. See my answers above in blue.
