When + how do we get these new plaques ?

Cathy,

OK, you know we are chomping at the bit to write those checks. Can we get Bristol Bronze to paint and polish? Can they find a larger stamp for the hull number? It looks as if the blank space for the hull number is not smooth. Is that the photo or the plaque? If the latter, can they fix it? Are they going to be able to provide CD-36 plaques with raised lettering any time soon? CD-14?

I sure have a lot of questions. Are they ready to make plaques? I think I may need two CD-36s and two CD-14s. If they can't find a larger punch, I'll have them punched, engraved or etched here.

Thanks very much for carrying out this project.

Let us know how to proceed.

The new plaque looks great. It does not look to be a big project to DIY colorize it. One probably could paint and wipe off the high spots before it dries, or lightly sand off the high spots with 400 grit after drying.

What is your take on the possibility of having them cast other models? I would like to do a 27 and a 10. It appears that there would be a demand for all the models from 10 up, particularly those that had plastic plaques from the factory.

I volunteer my plastic 27 plaque, even on a sacrificial basis ( I don't know if the molding process would destroy it), if I would have some reasonable certaintly that I would get a bronze one back!!

Realization's original hull# plaque is bronze and came with the boat as original equipment. The hull# plaque was available in either plastic or bronze. It was up to the original owner, who ordered the boat, to make that selection. So if yours is plastic, the original owner was just trying to save some money.

I'm waiting to hear from Bristol Bronze regarding the availability of plaques for the other models. The plaques for the CD32 are now available. They are $35 plus shipping and handling. Plaques for the CD32 can be ordered by contacting Bristol Bronze. Their contact info follows:

This past weekend I was doing some repair to the main hatch and took the CD plague off. Much to my surprise, it is plastic. I'd never paid too much attention to it and had assumed it was bronze. The previous posts indicat that Bristol Bronze might have replicas. Does anyone have expereince with them? I'd like to replace the plaque with a bronze one.

Bristol Bronze might not be the only show in town. If you do some searching, locally, you may be able to find a foundry that would cast one for you. The plastic plate you have could serve as the mold.

A well loved Cape Dory deserves a bronze plate, Steve.

I spoke with Bristol Bronze last week and I have received my Typhoon plaque, number size was correct, size to was correct. The cost was $66. He indicated he had plaques for all Cape Dory's execpt the 40. I love my new boat jewelery.

I can't see it either. I would make my own from a mold of the original, but our plastic plate has been dinged too much over the years. I know it says Cape Dory, but the mold would not pick that up. Hmm...$66.00.

I noticed your home port is Dutch Harbor. I'll have to keep a lookout for a CD26. I usually spend a couple nights a year there. An Ericson 29 I owned for 18 years is homeported there. I spotted it two years ago after not seeing it since 96.
