Please excuse extreme ignorance.
I can't find the dipstick for checking oil on my CD33 with a Universal Diesal. No manuals I have, or have seen can provide me with guidance, and no one I have asked has been able to locate it either.
In addition to the obvious knowing how much oil, I need to change the oil for the first time. Any tips specific to this engine, I saw the posts of a few weeks ago, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

CD33, Universal Diesal and oil

Re: Dip stick !!!
Richard,
Sorry, just couldn't resist that! If it is a Universal 18, 14 hp diesel, the dipstick is on the starboard side of the engine, about 6 inches in from the forward part of the engine. It takes two (2) quarts of 30 weight oil. Straight 30 weight is what is recommended in the Universal manual.
If the engine is a different model than what I have specified, I have no idea where the dipstick is! As far as changing the oil, run the engine to operating temp first, then pump the oil out through the dipstick tube. I'm going to purchase one of the "Oil Boy" oil changers (about $44) as I hear they are excellent for doing this task.

Re: CD33, Universal Diesel and oil
I suspect that you have the Universal M-30 (21 or 24 horsepower--I can never remember which). This engine uses 5.5 quarts (US) including the oil filter. The dipstick is on the port side. Look behind the alternator, but lower. The user end of the dipstick has a finger ring about 1" in diameter.
You will probably want to connect with a Universal dealer in order to obtain an owner's manual.
Hope this helps.

Re: CD33, Universal Diesal and oil
If you have the three cylinder model 25 with 21 horsepower the dipstick is on the starboard side. You squeeze your hand in below the diesel injector pump and above the fanbelt and it's about a foot back from the front of the engine. When you pull the dipstick the first time it will show no oil. This is normal. You wipe it off and push it back in and then it will read. The dipstick has a ring just as M. R. describes. The dipstick might be missing in which case you have to locate the dipstick tube and get yourself a new dipstick. The dipstick sticks into a 1/2 inch tube that sticks up about 6 inches from the bottom of the block where the pan bolts together. It's darkish and hard to see in there so a flashlight helps. Well, I guess we've covered every model engine there is for you.Richard Stanley wrote: Please excuse extreme ignorance.
