CD28 chainplates
Does anone have a sorce for the flathead stainless steel bolts used on Cape Dorys to fasten the bronze chainplates down? They seem to be 3/8 fine thread flathead machine screws. 316 alloy bolts are hard to find.
Thanks in advance.

Re: CD28 chainplates
I know of a CD owner that had his chainplate bolts magnafluxed to insure their integrity...he also told me they were not stainless...but were silicon bronze...unless I misunderstood him

Re: CD28 chainplates
Hmmm, Maybe dye penetration testing but I don't think you can magnaflux a non magnetic material. If I can find the bolts I think they would be less expensive than non destructive testing. Stainless steel and bronze really must be x-rayed to see whats happening. And the bolts look to be stainless to me. Perhaps the bolts were changed to bronze to address a problem, What year was your friend's 28?Kurt wrote: I know of a CD owner that had his chainplate bolts magnafluxed to insure their integrity...he also told me they were not stainless...but were silicon bronze...unless I misunderstood him

Re: CD28 chainplates
The CD28 was from the early 80's as I recall...the owner sold MAC tools and had a very stong mechanical aptitude. He had the bolts tested by one of the customers on his sales route.

Just bought a CD28 hull # 357. I've noticed that the below-deck plate could corrode...has anyone seen this as a problem?
Thanks!
