cd 28 vs. sea sprite 27/28

Post by Stan Wheatley »

I am looking to buy a pocket cruiser. The CD 28 was at the top of my list, but recently I have been smitten by the Sea Sprite 27/28. Is any one able to provide a comparison? I plan to use the boat for family cruising with two adults and two children, ages 10 and 7, probably never spending more than two or three nights in a row on board.

To further confuse things, check out:

A few years back I looked at the Seasprite and fell in love with it! A very pretty boat. I never got one, but now getting back into sailing after 15 or so years this last fall, I wound up with a really nice CD27. A year later I'm not only not disappointed, but quite enthusiastic about the boat even if it is a bit on the "smallish" side!

Anyway there are two Seasprite 27/28s in our harbor in Stonington.

I visited the C E Ryder plant and it seemed to me their construction quality was very good, but it's hard for me to determine any meaningful comparison at this late date with the CD boats.

There were far more CD's produced, of that I'm sure. I can tell you from my experience the CD is an incredibly solid and well built boat; and you'll get plenty of opinions on this board about the 27 "vs" the 28..... finer lines on the 27, more room on the 28 -

Mostly we all agree that we are absolutely in love with these boats!

For your purpose I think either the 27 or 28 will have the room you need, they are both quite seaworthy.

My sneaking suspicion just looking at the designs is that the 27 (and 28) may be somewhat dryer boats in a chop than the Seasprite. Somehow the lines look more tender to me! Just a hunch.

Best wishes!
Yves
