MD7A Fresh Water Cooling System Questions

Post by ckreitlein »

I have removed my old MD7A raw water engine due to rust-thru and am about to install an MD7A fresh water cooled engine I got from a kind CDSOA member (thanx Ian!), but am unsure of how the water hoses go and to where. If you have a fresh water cooled MD7A engine and would be willing to tell me how your raw and fresh water hoses are installed, I would be very appreciative. For example, does the expansion tank feed the reverse drive first, or is the reverse drive cooled by raw water? Those sorts of questions. Thanks.

I found an old Martec document that explains a FWC conversion on the MD7. (Mostly in Swedish...)

Raw water comes in the seacock, through the transmission cooler, then into the raw water pump, the heat exchanger, and then into the exhaust injection elbow.

Cooling water circulates with an electric pump into the thermostat housing and exhaust log bottom fitting, out of the thermostat hose (that used to feed to the exhaust) and back to the electric pump.

Send me a pm with an email, and I will forward the .pdf
