Holding tank

Post by mshopenn »

Does anyone know the location and capacity of the holding tank on a 1978 CD 28?

If your holding tank is under the V-birth is should be a 24 gallon waste tank.

According to my CD manual, the 28 and 30 CD's all have the same tank. The 25D, and 27
have their tanks located in the bilge.

Hope this helps

Raven has her holding tank in the bilge as well. It is 20 Gals, Steve.

According to the owner that is selling the boat, the v berth has 60 gallon water tank under it. If so, where would the holding tank be?

Look under the aft hatch in the cabin sole. This is right in front of the engine and should have an inspection port in the top of the tank, Steve.

My 28 CD is a 1979 model. That is where I got my information from. If the folks built
a 28 CD stuffed a 60 gallon tank in the pointy end of the boat, someone is blowing smoke!

There is no room for a 60 gallon tank that area. There is barely enough for a holding tank!

If you are purchasing a CD 28, be sure to have an appraiser check it out before you
sign on the dotted line. Be interesting what he finds!!

Thanks; I haven't been able to fathom 60 gallons of water under the v-berth, not just in terms of space but the weight in the bow. Every drawing that I've ever seen of a 1978 CD 28 has the water tanks under the port and starboard settee berths. I'm heading up to see the boat mid-April and will let you know what I find. If you're interested in looking at what's advertised, it's on sailboat listings.com and her name is Andiamo.

My boat came with a 5 gallon holding tank beneath the v berth, kinda puny.
With the water tank also in that space it doesn't leave much room to expand it.

It seems like there was a period there, when tanks were put in all over the place and of varying sizes. The CD28 I'm going to look at, Andiamo, is advertised on this site in Dighton, MA so I'll find out next week. Thanks for all the input.
