There are different policies and options out there. We have a policy from BoatU.S. and Realization is covered year round. But we cannot take her to Bermuda or farther south than Jacksonville, FL without additional insurance.

Call your agent or insurance carrier and see what needs to be done, and at what cost, to extend your sailing season coverage or sailing range.
YOU ARE IN GOOD HANDS WITH ALLSTATE. I insured with Allstate for many years. No one could ever touch their rates. Their policy covers continental U.S. and Canada up to 100 miles offshore, year round, in the water are on the hard. Yes, you must get a rider for Bermuda and the Bahamas. Never did Bermuda but the rider for the Bahamas was only $100. Lost my 1978 Pearson 365 in hurricane Bertha in Belhaven, N.C. on a mooring while I was in Europe. They totalled her. Hull insurance was for $55,000, they paid me $53,900, two weeks after I filed claim. They then insured subsequent vessels, my Pilgrim 40 and my CD 36. Boat U.S. and Essex could not even come close.

my first thought was "insurance?you gotta be kidding"but i see all these other people answered this seriously,so i guess you're not.one of the best kept secrets i know is that people of different economic classes can enjoy sailing.most of the time the question that most concerns me is"what about food?"i feel, sometimes, that even if i had the money,i might not spend it betting against my luck and my seamanship, but anyway,i don't think anybody would insure a boat that's worth what,2500 dollars?i live aboard, everything i own is aboard, maybe this raises the value to three grand.my biggest worry if i wreck the boat, especially in the winter,is that i will die,in which case insurance would be of small utility.as you could probably guess,i also don't have a life raft, and,i'm afraid,no health insurance either.as for the radio,i have the antenna mounted below deck,so it receives the weather and i can call the bridges, but the transmitting range is so limited that in the event of an emergency,i would have no choise but to "drown like a gentleman",to use,was it humphrey barton's phrase?i have a sort of half baked theory about personal responsibility, just for myself, you understand,i'm not advocating that anyone else do likewise.i just feel that the only security that can be bought is false sence of...
