Getting ready to repower a 1980 CD30 with the Beta 16 and want to replace almost everything associated with the drive train. I have looked through all the manuals but have some questions regarding the cutless bearing and packing gland.
1) We are looking to replace the packing gland with PSS Shaft Seal but I'm a little confused on the stern tube diameter. From what I can tell it's 1 1/2 in diameter. Can anyone confirm that and also if anyone repowered their CD30 and used a PSS Shaft Seal can you confirm the 1 1/2 inch stern tube diameter?
2) As for cutless bearing I'm looking at a Duramax, Navel Brass, 1" with an O.D. of 1 1/4 and 4 inches long. Again can anyone confirm those dimension from a replacement that you might have done?
3) Last question, really! We are look to put a Vetus NLP-50 waterbreak muffler, I measured our current exhaust host and it looks to be all 2". Has everyone else used 2" on their CD30's
Thanks in advance for any and all help. I will post pictures and a summary of all the fun when we dig into this next month.

Hi Ed,
Yes on the 1.5" shaft log. I purchased my stuffing box hose from Deep Blue Yacht Supply (http://www.deepblueyachtsupply.com/) because Hamilton and Jamestown only had one foot lengths. I used 15 or 16" for mine. Good service, good prices.
Yes again on the cutless. You can make two cuts with a Sawzall and twist it right out.
The screws in the image are interesting. I suspect they used it to hold the shaft log in place while repairing the hull. No setscrews in mine, but that's not typical.
And 2" hose will work perfectly with the Beta 16. Are you getting a high rise exhaust elbow?

Thanks Guppy, nice X-Ray! We did not order it with the hi-rise exhaust, Ben Thomas up at Oregon Marine Industries didn't think we needed it.
Did you align you new Beta while it was on the hard? If so did you notice any possible mus-alignment once in the water due to the hull shape being different in and out of the water?

Tiny shift down, but it would have not mattered if I had left it. That long shaft has a lot of wiggle room.
I work on Equine X-Ray systems, so the image was easy to try. I was baffled why my boat had no set screws.
Ben's a good doobie... He shared more than enough to help me along.

I used a Vetus waterlift muffler, don't recall model # - it's the cylindrical plastic type with the articulating 2" ports. It also has a drain petcock.
Good performance, no issues.
With PSS seal, it will 'burp' thru the vent at times so it's a good idea to catch that water in some type of container. I use a bicycle water jug with a nylon barbed fitting.
