Old CD-25 with unusual layout & motor well?

Post by Ziradog »

I went and looked at CD-25 number 16 (1973)today. There were a couple things different about this compared to the other CD-25's I have looked at. First, on the port side there was a dinette instead of a straight settee. More interesting was the lazerette & motor well. There was no liner in that space, just the boxed opening for the motor to go down through. And in front of this was a small round drain going through the bottom of the boat. With the motor mounted on the stern rail and my fat butt leaning over the motor well, the stern of the boat squatted enough that water came up in through the drain - about 1" in the bottom of the lazerrette. Has anyone seen this arrangement before? Is it a problem? Seems like you would not be able to put anything in this locker that couldn't get wet.

I am trying to attach a picture.

We have that layout in hull #37. It's a great layout for the kids to have a spot to do stuff during the day. Or to make sandwiches on at lunch. Although it take some banging to get the table out at bedtime.

Yes water is in the well. But it's only a gas tank and sealed plastic tub that lives there. The best advice I have for trimming the boat is to keep the bow water tank full.

Ben -

Don't you get stuff growing there from the water sloshing in & out?

My dad had a 73 cd25 with that lazerette configuration. The worst thing about it is that the hole scoop the water, giving a whole new meaning to the term sugar scoop stern. my dad carved a couple of inserts out of stock 2 x 6 that fit around the lower end of the outboard. He did not try to make them water tight. Water still comes in but it does make it fair. When the boat is at the dock the hole is above the waterline and will drain.

Hope this helps
