Have recently purchased CD33 'Rover' from Peter Dyke in Dana Point, CA Need to know the proper size of the stuffing in the prop shaft stuffing box. Manual says it's a B135 Spartan box with a 1" shaft, but fails to mention the size of the stuffing. Boat's in great shape, but box has a little more that just a 'drip':) Engine is Universal 27 hp #5424. Thanks

Re: CD33 stuffing box packing
Don't know about the size of the packing but have you tried to adjust the stuffing box to stop the leak? It's easy to do if you're a small person (a bit tight getting back there in a 33) and still possible if you're 6 ft tall like me. Also, the Universal 5424 is a 24 hp motor, not 27. FYI

Re: CD33 stuffing box packing
Brian: I also have a CD-33, in Miami, FL. I used to have a leaking stuffing box and finally decided to go with the dry packing. It works great. You buy it at any marine store. It comes in a small plastic cilinder and looks like green putty. You must take the stuffing box apart,-not that difficult- then remove completely the old packing from inside the thicker part. FYI, your Universal Atomic 4 #5424 is a 24 hp, 3-cylinder water cooled engine with a one inch prop shaft. You use 1/8" regular packing... If you decide to try the Non-drip, you still need to use some of the regular packing on both sides of the dry packing... instructions are clear with the green goop... but once put in there, no more leak. You can lie over your engine and you'll reach the stuffing box from there. hope you have long arms. It's easier if you have the right tools from Spartan. Good luck.
