CD25D on Yachtworld

Post by wizard »

Just visited Yachtworld and browsing the for sale ads for Cape Dory. They have a 25D for sale, 1984 for 59,999. According to their text, the replacement value without upgrades, is 120,000. replacement with upgrades, 180,000. If this broker gets this price for this owner, I'm surely going to give him my listing for both my CD27 and my CD31. Just sayin'

The boat yard saw this guy coming. I can't fathom the $18,000 price for Awlgrip. It looks like he removed the Life Lines too.

He says that trades are acceptable. I wonder if he would take two $30,000 Typhoons?

Ever wonder what a 25D, or any Cape Dory model, would cost today new if they were still being made?
The average price for a new car in 1980 was $6,000. Today the average spent on a new car is over $30,000. The sticker price on my 22D was $24,000. If the increase in new boats mirrored that in new cars, today it would be around $125,000. If anything, I would imagine that boat prices have gone up more than car prices given the savings in mass production in countries with lower wages.

Well, I surely can appreciate the extrapolation theory in terms of pricing, which I guess that would mean that my CD31 which cost 65k in 1983 would be well over 300k in today's prices. Very nice to fantasize about that figure, but doubt seriously if the market would bear that.. I surely hope he gets his sale price as it would help the overall valuation of our loved boats

For all practical purposes that is a brand new 25D. The owner owns or has complete access to a marina/yacht services company. Search the archives for up close & personal pic I posted earlier this year. Most likely He'll never get is asking but this is one beautiful little boat.

Yes, it is Dux a synthetic line, very strong designed to actually save weight aloft, but not sure it makes much sense on weight saving on a 25footer. I wonder why he didn't put the rails and lifelines back on? It is a nice boat, however there used to be one out in Colorado tha a guy redid the interior with some beautiful teakwork and some very innovative design upgrades.

I bought s/v CLOUD GIRL at over the market price because of her fine interior and good trailer. She has a rough (gel-coat cracked) exterior, but is very livable. I have actually spent about 12 of the last 16 months aboard her, slowly "working her up" for good cruising. While I do wish everything had been perfect on her, I would have missed out on an education that I could not have obtained in any other way. There are real limits as to how much I am willing to spend on her. She is suiting my needs very well, though I am now thinking a CD27 or CD28 would extend my cruising range. Hard to beat a 25D for single-handed cruising. Surprisingly practical.
