Cape Dory 30 boom wanted.
Cape Dory 30 boom wanted.
My boom snapped in half the other day when I jibed accidentally. I realize that Rig Rite stocks the tubes for a new boom but was wondering if anyone out there had a boom they could sell me used.

Argo,
That sounds really scary. Can you tell us more about the jibe? Was there any other damage? I hope you were able to save all of the fittings

Sailing downwind in 20 knots of wind. Double reef in the main. I had just jibed in a controlled manner, hadn't rigged up a preventer yet, wave caught me off guard, the boat jibed and the thing snapped like a twig right at the point where the bail for the traveler connects to the mast. Looks like there was some corrosion on the inside of the mast where the bail bolts through. It wasn't apparent from the outside. The boat was built in 86 it's in pretty good shape. I guess that's one serious drawback to sheeting the boom in the middle. It gives the sail a lot of mechanical advantage to snap it in the middle by those through bolts.
