Has anyone ever had one of those teak cockpit floor grates made for a typhoon?

Re: Teak Grating for Ty
I checked out the local prices & they were out of sight so I built a teak cockpit grating for our Typhoon this summer. It is a lot of work but its worth it.
I started with a construction paper template of the cockpit & then I made another out of 1/2” plywood. I decided on a 2” by 15/16” teak border & full 1” by 15/16” notched teak for the grating & I sent the specs to Steve at the South Jersey Lumberman`s Co. shop in Mays Landing NJ. He was able to UPS me the cut teak stock & I went from there. I got some great advice from the guys on this site as to how to attach the teak (recorsonal glue & screws). The full template was the key to getting it correct. It took me ~ 2 months to get it done & I had a great time.

Hmmmm... is South Jersey cheaper than the material you can buy from West and others?

Re: Teak Grating for Ty
Thanks for the tip. A couple of additional questions. Did you leave open notches for the scupper plugs? How did you address the area where the tiller goes in. Mine is the 1970 model where there is a raised fiberglass structure instead of the flat teak of later models.
Thanks, I bet it makes the boat look great!

I cut back the scupper areas at a 45 degree angle to allow for full drainage.I have the same raised fiberglass area by the tiller ( mine is a 74 model) & I was able -with clamps- to work the grating around this area.
