I agree with Stan and Neil on this one. As for a motor, you might want to check this board for threads about the difficulty of mounting a 4-stroke engine in that well. Either make a lower offer or look elsewhere, there are lots of 25s around, though not necessarily in Maine.
Good luck!

BTW, the 25 was NOT an Alberg design, but it is very nice-sailing boat, IMHO. :)

You most likely have already seen this, but they're asking $5500 for this.

Megunticook.... if it was me I would not touch that boat! I had my Cd25 for 18 years and they are indeed great small yachts... but judging by those photos, there is a huge amount of work to be done on that one. You can find another 25 in much better shape for probably under $5K. I don't like the looks of the hull; the portholes are falling apart and probably leak all over, the motor well is in bad shape, all in all, the boat looks in terrible shape. That's MHO.

I would shop around on sailboat listings.com I personally think u could get a 25 that's clean and ready to go for Under $5k.

I think the 25 you are considering will take a bunch of work and certainly longer than May to get functional. I bought mine 12 months ago in worse shape and have it functional but lots more to go. I would spend more up front so you have the time to enjoy SAILING it with your kids instead of using all your time to fix it up...

I have been there and it's not too much fun.

After looking at the pictures, that's a deal only if it's free and you feel like living in the back yard for two years.

Find the best smaller boat you can and enjoy that. How about a Cape Cod Goldeneye?

... Did I just commit heresy?

Thanks for chiming in everyone. I'm going to pass on this boat and keep looking. Sounds like we could do a lot better given our budget.

A Typhoon Senior or a CD22 would also work well for our family. We'll keep sniffing around. Seems like the perfect time to be buying a boat.

Good Time To Buy A Boat

Post by Oswego John »

There is a saying that goes something like this:

"The two best times are the day you bought the boat and the day you sold it".

Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever learn the meaning of life. Then at other times I snap out of it and think, "Who cares? I'm having a blast on this wonderful roller coaster called life".

Woo Hoo :D

Agreed.
And you never mentioned anything about the deck. Did you "walk it"? It should feel firm and without springiness as you walk.
Then... if it does, walk away...........

Or, if this becomes $500 and you can verify that the structural condition is sound, you can have fun fixing it up and have "new everything".
