Running MD7A and/or parts for sale

Post by Neil Gordon »

Just a heads up as I complete the planning for a repower with a Beta. I expect the MD7A will be out of the boat in late October or early November. For me, it's time; for you, it's a great opportunity!

The MD7A runs well but it's showing some age. It runs hot (without overheating) and leaks a bit of oil and water. Despite its flaws, it's been totally reliable... I've recently run it hard for up to 10 hours at a time.

Let me know if you have any interest.

The Beta install is scheduled for March and the MD7A can come out now or in the early spring.

As noted, the motor works well with some signs of age. I suspect that out of the boat it wouldn't be too difficult to get the seals back in shape and deal with some other minor issues. From my point of view, since I'm paying to have the work done, it doesn't make sense to have it taken out, repaired/restored and then reinstalled.

I'm happy to sell it as is or sell it for parts. Let me know what's best for you.

My MD7A will be out of the boat this week or next. I'd prefer to sell it intact; if I can do that quickly I won't start stripping the parts. (I have storage space for parts but not for the block.)

It's a '77 but runs well, with issues, as noted. As spares, pretty much everything you might need seems to be in good shape.

The motor is located in Quincy, MA, at Marina Bay.

I have a nibble but it's contingent on the nibbler closing on a boat with a seized MD7A. If you need an MD7A or parts, procrasination will work against you! Let me know what you need.

FYI, the motor has been winterized and will be safely stowed until spring. If it's not sold by the time the cover comes off, it will be broken down for parts. Let me know what you might be interested in.

Yes, it's the CAV pump. Also, the tack works just fine so I suppose all's well along that food chain.

I'll see if I can explore fair pricing and shipping costs. Stay tuned.

For those who have procrastinated, the MD7A is now under contract and off the market.

Joe DeMers at Sound Marine Diesel will be picking up my MD7A next week and using its organs to give new life to other little Volvos. If you need a part, contact Joe at http://www.soundmarinediesel.com/.

Thanks, Pete. I've gotten great support from Ben Thomas at Beta, and from John Ring who did the exact same swap on his 28 a few years ago.
