NORTHEAST FLEET REMINDER: Rendezvous at Red Brook Aug. 21-2
Attention Northeast Fleet Members:
Please remember that the final destination of this year's Southern New England Cruise will also be this year's fleet rendezvous, at Red Brook Harbor, MA, where Lynne and I will be hosting a Barbecue/party at our home overlooking for moorings at Scotch House Cove. Even if you're not taking part in the cruise, please feel free to join us for this event, which should be fun and a good gam.
We plan to serve grilled burgers and hot dogs, as well as salads and lots of good cheer--including, of course, Dark N' Stormies, cold brews and wine and soft drinks.
Hope to see you there!
--Joe Myerson, Captain, Northeast Fleet
DATES: August 21 and 22
Mooring Information: Patti Parker at Parker's Boat Yard has been notified of the dates of the rendezvous. If you're planning to come, please call the Boat Yard at 508-563-9366. No deposits are necessary, but it is up to each captain to contact Parker's individually.
It is also possible to anchor off Bassetts Island, although it's a bit of a dinghy haul to get to a landing. While our home overlooks the harbor, we do not have beach rights, so you'll have to tie up at Parker's. If you plan to anchor overnight, you are supposed to contact the Bourne Harbormaster. The town limits anchoring to two nights at a time, but I don't know how strictly this is enforced. (I've never contacted Tim Mullen, the harbormaster, before anchoring there, but he might be enforcing this rule nowadays, so be forewarned.)
Please register, contacting me and/or organizers Dick Barthel or Joe Montana.
NOTE: I will be unable to receive e-mail between August 2 and August 16. Don't be disturbed if you get an automated vacation message from my mailbox.

Patti at Parker's Boat Yard just took my mooring reservation and mentioned that they monitor
Channel 69. We should all call early on the day of arrival and we will be provided a mooring number at that time.

This is unusual. Do towns have authority to limit anchoring in harbors?Joe Myerson wrote:... The town limits anchoring to two nights at a time, ...

I'll be coming down from Boston. Who can meet me in Scituate?
As for anchoring in Red Brook, I've never contacted the HM and never had a problem. OTOH, yes he does control the anchorage. One night 2 weeks ago he closed it because be feared post-race rowdiness.

Neil,
I will look for you on your way back.
We will depart Boston on Sat 8/24 to SBC, then Monday morning to PBY.
A week of family cruising. I will miss the rendezvous, but then again, I don't fit in.

Where's the raft-up in Pt. Judith Pond gonna be? I'm working that day but if I get some free time I may drive by to take a look at the eye candy.
Aloha,

Actually the Maine Cruise was last week. For those who couldn't participate by boat, there was a group dinner ashore at Abel's Lobster Pound in Somes Sound (MDI) on Friday, 8/9. It's not quite in Casco Bay, but we move the Maine Cruise around, so maybe next year?? In case you missed the announcement, here it is.

Come to think of it, there haven't been any reports how it went. Maybe they're all still sailing, which would be nice.

Bob, the plan is to go up past RN24 in the pond, and anchor south of Gardner Island and Beach Island. The anchorage is accessed through a narrow channel between the two islands.

That's where I thought you'd end up since it's really the only anchorage in the pond, except for the Harbor of Refuge, which is technically outside of the pond proper. It's also smack dab in the middle of the pond, not very close to any public roads. I'll see if I can swing by in a dinghy if my co-worker, whom I'm backing up on-call, isn't working.
Aloha,

A tip of the hat to Joe and Lynne for kindly hosting an "event" at their home on Buzzards Bay. Is was a lovely affair. And the bonus was fair wind both to and from RB Harbor from Mattapoisett.
We had a little adventure returning to Susan B but were assisted in resolving it by Jim and Nancy of Orion. Many thanks to them.

Many thanks to everyone who put the rendezvous together. It is very kind and generous of you! We couldn't attend, but it sounds so nice.
