Regarding the Campbell Sailor prop versus the standard prop, I have had it on for almost a month now. I think it does have less drag, but not sure how much. It defintely does not have the stopping power in reverse that my old prop had. In forward it seems fine.

My old prop was 13 x 10 for a 3200 rpm engine, and the Campbell is 12 x 5 for a 3600 rpm engine. It seems overpitched, and I haven't heard back from West by North yet about sending it back for a re-pitch. I emailed them several days ago.

I may try a 13 x 7 standard prop.

12x5 Campbell sounds under pitched. Perhaps that's why you don't have much trust in reverse. From what I know about them 13x7 or 13x8 would be about right replacement for 13x10. Check this tread. A lot of good info.

My Campbell Sailer prop is 12 x 5 and I can only get to up to 2800 of my 3600 rpms, so I was thinking the prop was overpitched, which seems unliklely at 12 x 5. When I inquired about a standard prop, the recommendation was indeed 13 x 7 as you mention, but West by North (Campbell Sailer manufacturers) suggested and sent a 12 x 5 Campbell Sailer. I have been trying to ciontact West by North for advice/repitch, but no response yet.

I've had my Campbell Sailor 12X7 for over two months now and I remain very satisfied. I'm not sure how much my info helps this discussion because I am just ultra reluctant to crank the Volvo MD7B to redline. The redline is 3000 and long before I get there it sounds like the pistons are getting ready to switch cylinders. :-) The engine is 30 years old and if it needs to be replaced the cost of a new engine will pale in comparison to the cost of a divorce. (3 kids still in college)

At 2000 rpm I'm seeing 5 knots thru the water. The GPS concurs. I haven't gone above 2200 rpms because I find 5 knots is fast enough. This is dramatically faster than I have seen in the 15 years I've had the boat. The reverse thrust seems adequate. I've not had any problem stopping the boat when pulling into the slip.

My boat has an older transmission which is 1.91 vs the more usual 2.4. Because of this they recommended the 12x7. I also described my reluctance to reach redline when I had the ordering discussion with West by North.

I have not noticed any drag from the 3 blade vs the old two. Again I'm not sure how much is due to the bottom job, but between the SR 21 and the Campbell Sailor I'm sailing faster than I did before. At this point I'm convinced that this was a great move for my boat.

I heard from West by North today and they will repitch at the end of the season, or they will make a new one an ship to me to switch out with the current prop. I will wait until the end of the season.
