SO I found a guy on CL, selling old growth teak from church pews... He's in S. Portland, ME, and he has probably 100+ bd. ft. at $18 per. Great price, he is fair about milling losses, and an old boatbuilder himself.
The wood has been stored under a tarp for a few years, but is very good and still plenty oily on the outside. The small pieces I purchased milled up beautifully, and he has quite a few larger pieces. Typhoon owners- you could buy the shaped sections and replace the flat seats with some beautiful solid teak benches...
Call Tom at 207 329-5381. He gave his permission for this post, and would like to get the cash out of the pile. He's around in the afternoons and evenings.
I could assist with cutting to size and shipping for a few beers.

Re: Get your Teak Freak on!
Hi Bill-
That looks like a nice haul! I need to replace a small section of toerail on my CD Typhoon. It's a 1" tall x 5/8" wide bullnose. I have woodworking skills but no shop or proper tools for shaping. The section I need is about 2' long. Do you think this is too small a piece for this?

Re: Get your Teak Freak on - CD25 Hatch Slides
I would encourage you to consider semi mass production of the teak hatch slides atop CD25s. Many of the originals have split and fallen apart over the many years since they were built. I recently replaced my slides with non-teak. If you are interested, I will be happy to give you exact measurements. I think you could sell them on this site.

Re: Get your Teak Freak on!
I contacted Tom about a couple of the seat pieces for some projects on Parfait (stern rail seat, etc), and he has been very accommodating, but the cost for shipping to Richmond, VA is about the same as the cost of the wood.
The cheapest shipping option is $170 to a terminal about 40 miles from my house.
Suddenly it is becoming cost prohibitive (two 8' pieces about 100 lbs total to 23116).
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Get your Teak Freak on!
If he is willing to cut the lengths down for you (and you are willing to have shorter peices), it could be shipped common carrier, I think the limit is 7', and it should be cheaper.
I am wondering how he is measuring board feet given the odd shape of the peices. $18 a board foot can be a good deal so long as he is measuring at the narrowest part of the board, if he isnt, it does not sound like that great a deal since milling would result in ended up only with the thickness of the narrowest part. I am paying $21 locally with no shipping for "burma" teak (thats for 4/4, price goes up for thicker of course, when I bought 8/4 for my bowsprit I paid a fortune).

Check out Uship.com or craigslist for an east coast driver. We have a horse truck going up and down the coast every so often, and can use that, so look around at local transporters there.
