I haven't had this problem with any other threads with photos.
Steve,

What device and browser are you using?

The pictures are links to another server in HTML <img> tags.
My guess is that your browser is not permitting the content from the other server.
I suggest trying a different browser or another computer.
If this works, then take a look at the security settings for the browser that doesn't display the content.

Thanks Jonathan,

The problem is actually the firewall on my office network. I was able to see the content on my home network with the same laptop. Your approach to the coaming boxes is a great idea. Anxious to see the finished product.

Steve,
I was thinking the same thing (that I couldn't see all the pictures) But then I realized that some of our members just have more awareness of guiness boxes than I ;)

Okay winter is here and I have resurrected this thread. Hilbert, could you post a picture of the box installed showing the cockpit side of the installation? This might be a cure for sheet storage and a split coaming board al in one.

I have been following this discussion, and BTW, nice box--I like the idea, and am sure you have good drainage out of the box and sealant to prevent wood rot deterrioration under the glass.
Regarding the split coaming boards, I have always noted the thick CD teak boards are not happy with being bent. It stands to reason if you could bend the whole board evenly top to bottom they might not split. However the bottom is bent with support near the bottom aft only, and more fully/even support at the front. It seems logical the board would want to split as the top resists being bent without a stabilizing force like the bottom sees, and there is no way around that. The idea of supporting the full height with an aft full height backer board has merrit to help prevent the board the extra stress and help prevent the splitting.

Hi Tim,
I'm not planning on installing them, until the boat is ready to go in the water. It is easier to climb in and move tools tools around without the added obstacles.
I'm already gaining valuable experience in keeping my head down:

My starboard coaming was also split along the deck and aft of the auto-pilot mount:

The coaming boards should fair better when supported along their entire width, by the coaming box and the foot of the solar arch:

Wow, they really look nice. Is the hole in the coaming going to match the hole in the box are will it be slightly smaller, or bigger? How does the top of the box line up with the top of the coaming? I'll be able to get to our boat this weekend to get some measurements. It looks like a great improvement over the original design.

Hilbert,

Would you please explain the paint material and process that you used on the coaming boxes.

Great questions and I'm open to suggestions on the best way to do it. I think that it would be difficult to make an exact hole in the coaming to match the box, therefore I will make it a slightly smaller for an aesthetic appearance. The edge on the top of the box was rounded to allow the fiberglass to lay over the seam. Maybe the board should be a little bit lower than the box and rounded on the inside edge?
Bob wrote:Would you please explain the paint material and process that you used on the coaming boxes.
To prepare a smooth surface for painting, I used a chip brush to apply epoxy mixed with talc. When hardened, it is easy to sand out with 220 grit. I used 3" foam rollers to apply EPI- two-part epoxy primer, which also fairs the surfaces. The top coats were a K type one-part semi-gloss polyurethane. It also went on very well with 3" rollers and brush tipping. Unfortunately, I can no longer find either the epoxy primer or the K type top coat.

When I painted the bowsprit, I moved on to the more expensive Pettit EZPrime for an undercoat and their two part polyurethane EZPoxy for the top coats. The EZPoxy is more difficult to work with and requires better roller technique and more care when tipping with a badger hair brush. It is a bit of a race to maintain the wet edge.

I'm still learning as I go. Don Casey's book, "This Old Boat", has an excellent chapter on brush and roller.

Hilbert,
What are the basic dimensions of your boxes height, length, depth, and opening size? I measured the coaming on our 27 today and it is only 5" above the deck. I won't be able to get a very tall opening without some major work.

I am planning on raising the height of the coamings, mostly for comfort.
As for the angles, keep in mind that the deck also slants downward from the cockpit.
