CD internal chain plates photos

For anyone interested in seeing what the internal chainplates on a CD28 look like. Here are some photos of the port plate I recently had pulled out of my boat. The plate is 3/10" thick. The reinforcing bars have been cut off. They're welded on, about a foot long and form an L shape at the bottom. The reinforcing bars were then fiberglassed onto the hull. I'm switching to silicon bronze external plates for simplicity and ease of inspection.

External bronze plates will be a great improvement.

So I've fabricated the new silicon broze external chainplates. Here they are. Now I have to drill the holes and bend four of the six.

These are 1.5"x3/16"x14"

I bought them cut from Atlas Metals Sales in Colorado.

Total price $180 plus shipping.

If I had it to do over I would chose bronze over stainless.

My hot rolled SS316 bars still need more polishing and there will always be the concern of crevice corrosion.

I've now cut the slots for the chainplates. By not cutting through the rub rail I hope to make it less likely to snag lines and other obstacles.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you cut those slots?

I'm considering the same adjustment to our CD27 in the fall.

The slots for the external chainplates were made by drilling down into the rub rails with a wood bit and then carefully chiseling out the rest.

Can the bronze chainplates be bent on site? Will I need a vice?
i've done just as you have, same supply house, etc......concerned about how much to bend the plates, and will they have to be heated.....any suggestions ?
