Typhoon Portlight replacement

Post by StanC »

I need to replace the portlights on my 1973 Typhoon (Weekender) with bronze portlights. The port hole diameter is 4 1/4 in. The Spartan replacement portlights are 4 3/4 in diameter. Before I enlarge the port hole to fit the Spartan portlights...I'm hoping to find another supplier with the right diameter to fit my boat....Are there other sources for portlights which will likely match my dimensions.

Appreciate any suggestions.

I replaced the old plexiglass portholes on my typhoon. I used 4" bronze portholes from hear:

US$64.95 / EACH
Glass Diameter: 4" · Glass Thickness: 1/4" · Spigot O.D. (Cut-Out Size): 4-1/2" · Spigot Depth: 1/2" · Flange O.D.: 5-1/2" · Screw Size: 5/16" · Weight: 1.5 lbs. · Part Number: 140012 / 1192B

I did have to enlarge the holes which was not too big of a problem. I would suggest using a sanding drum on a dremel type tool. You can control the dust by holding a vacuum next to the tool. They came out fine. If you use the Spartan portholes just check that the depth of the flange is not greater than the thickness of cabin sides.

Good luck

got mine 15+ years ago from ABI marine which you will find at sailboatstuff.com.
had to do a little fitting, but it definitely was not 3/4".
they now have a nice patina and have held up well.

I second the ABI port lights. I replaced the ones in our old Typhoon and it made for a very value added upgrade. Forget the cost but it really dressed up the boat and were maintenance free. My friend now has the boat and they still look great 15 years on.
